“You go on. You set one foot in front of the other, and if a thin voice cries out, somewhere behind you, you pretend not to hear, and keep going.” ― Geraldine Brooks, "March"

Once There Was a Snowbaby
We finally got dumped on this morning, which meant that Camden got his first official play-in-the snow day. He loved it!

Here he is flopping in the snow like a baby seal. He thought it was so funny, and he kept purposely doing belly-flops over and over and laughing.
Grandma dropped by just in time to play in the snow with us for a little while. Here she is laughing at Camden and his "baby seal" antics.
Camden tossing a snowball to Grandma. A pretty good throw for such a little guy! Look out, Grandma.
Putting some finishing touches on our pathetic little snowman. The snow was very dry and powdery, so it didn't stick together very well!
Camden was intent on using his snowmower.

Gone Skiin'
It's hard for me to think of a better New Year's Day than an extraordinary day of skiing with the ones I love.
My hunny and me.
On top of the world! (No, seriously!) We took the highest lift in the resort (I'm told it's the highest 6-person lift in North America) to a peak of 12,060 feet, and skiied the ridge before riding the slopes all the way down. I was pretty pleased with myself that the guys got me up there. It was an amazing experience. The only thing we could see above us was the clouds, and the view was spectacular.
Daddy, Trent and me. This was the first time I've ever been up skiing with my Poppa. We had such a blast!

Wildlife in Our Own Backyard
We are the only ones in the area that have a fenced yard without a dog, and consequently our neighborhood foxes sometimes seek refuge here. Trent has seen the male napping in our garden during the summer, and I saw both of them walking through the brush a few blocks away once. This morning, we found the two of them together in our backyard for the first time.

Camden kept saying, "Daddy, look at the OXES!"

O Christmas Tree
Bright and early Saturday morning, we cruised up to the mountains for our family tradition!

All bundled up. Trent said he looked like the kid from "A Christmas Story."

A view of downtown from about an hour away. (Click on the picture for a better look.) I love the mountains.
Sorry there aren't any pics of the hiking and cutting this year! As it was, we had our hands full hiking in the snow with a two-year-old. I kept trying to carry him piggy-back, and he would say, "Mommy! I can get down and walk in the snow!" He did exceptionally well. We had so much fun! Christmas traditions are my favorite.

Eternal optimist
This morning, as Trent was on his way out the door, we were commenting on the enormous flakes of snow falling on our freshly-aerated yard (What season is it again?), and Trent said, "Well, at least the lawn's getting watered." I love that man.

Snowed In
Well... We were officially snowed in yesterday with what the media is calling the Colorado Holiday Blizzard of 2006. Trent spent the day clearing walks and driveways for neighbors and grandparents with his snowblower. Here are some pictures of our winter wonderland.

Our street

Our across-the-street neighbors are going to have some fun digging out their car!

Trent by the drift on our back porch

But best of all, the sun came out yesterday afternoon after the storm was over.

And today is gorgeous... blue skies, melting snow, gleaming icicles hanging from the eaves... perfect weather for meeting the neighbors and helping each other dig out. (Except for Trent, who reported to work at his regular time this morning. Crazy, eh? Only in Denver.)
