Honey Harvest

Our littlest beekeeper. He thinks the bees are his pets. :)

Calming them down.

Come on, little girls. Go back to your hive!

Vacating the premises.

Our first look at the good stuff! Mmmm ...

Little helper strikes again. "Camden! Stay out of the honey!"

Our sweet set-up: a mini fruit press on a stand Trent built, 2-tier strainer, 5-gallon food-safe bucket with spout.  We pressed the combs in a mesh bag recommended for wine-making. Perfecto.

Fresh honey! Yumma! We filled about 1/3 of the bucket. Not bad for just one bee box. We'll leave the other three boxes for our bees to winter over, then harvest what's left in the spring.

We got about 22 lbs. of honey. Overall, our first harvest went great!
